To start scouting fields using the assigned methodology, the user must first be standing within the field boundary or force their location. Instructions on how to force a location can be found here. Once the geo location is within the field boundary, select the green Scout tile located in the lower left corner of the screen.
After selecting the Scout tile, the methodology assigned to the organization will be visible. All data collected at this geo location will stay linked to the sample point that is dropped at this geo location.
Please note: The methodology displayed in the Scout tile will differ between organizations, depending on which methodology is assigned to the organization.
Once opening the Scout tile, the list of inspection groups included in the methodology will be displayed. Enter an inspection group by clicking on the green text located on the bottom bar of the inspection group tile that reads New inspection.
Once the inspection group is opened, the phenomenons that are available in the methodology will be listed.
More information on methodologies, inspection groups, phenomenons, and characteristics can be found here.
To create a scouting record for a phenomenon, click on that phenomenons tile. The tile will also display an indicator if the phenomenon has been monitored or scouted. In the image below, the NOT MONITORED indicator is located in the top left corner of the tile.
After entering the phenomenon's tile, the user can enter the scouting data they observed.
Please note: The way the data is captured (insects per plant, present or absent, low, med, high, ect..) could differ depending on how the methodology was built and which methodology is assigned to the organization.
Once you select the item for data to be entered, the page will open where the user can enter the data that was observed while scouting. The method in which the scouting data is captured is determined by the methodology. Once the scouting data has been entered, click on the green Save occurrence bar at the bottom of the screen.
After clicking Save occurrence, the page will return to show the list of phenomenons within the inspection group. The phenomenon that was just inspected will now show as MONITORED.
The user can continue to select the remaining phenomenons that have been scouted and enter the scouted data. Each scouted phenomenon will show as NOT MONITORED until data is entered.
The phenomenons that can be selected are the ones listed within that inspection group.
While In the inspection group, users can also enter notes and attach photos to the scouting points geo location. To enter a note, select on the note pad and pencil icon located in the top-right of the screen.
The notes page will open and the user can type out any note they would like to make for that scouting point's location. These notes could include anything the user observed in the field, any recommendations of treatment, or over all thoughts on the crop or the scouting location. After entering the note, click on the green Save button at the bottom of the screen. It's important to note that users can also delete notes from this same page. The delete note option can be found in the top right corner of the notes page.
After selecting the green Save button, the user will be taken back to the scouting inspection group screen where there is now a red dot on the notes icon. This indicates that a note has been added and successfully saved.
To capture a photo and tie it to the scouting point, navigate to the upper right corner of the screen and click on the camera icon.
The camera will open on the users device and they will be able to capture a photo. After capturing the photo, save the image by clicking on Use photo, located in the bottom right corner of the screen.
After clicking Use photo, the user will be taken back to the scouting inspection group screen where a preview of the image they captured is now visible in place of the camera icon. This indicates that the image was captured successfully.
When all the scouted data is captured, the user will need to complete the inspections that were entered in the inspection group. To save the entered data and continue on to another inspection group, click on the green Complete inspection button, located at the bottom of the screen.
After the user selects Complete Inspection, the scouting inspection group page will appear. The user can then navigate to the other inspection groups and follow the same process of entering scouted data.
After entering scouting data for the required inspection groups, click on the green Finalize Samples button at the bottom of the screen to save your observations for the scouting point.
After finalizing the samples captured, a scouting point based on the geo location of the user or the user's forced location, will appear on the field map. The icon of the scouting point indicates what type of record was entered. An insect icon Indicates that a scouting record was captured. There will also be a pop up message at the bottom of the screen to indicate that the scouting point was created successfully containing all of the scouted data.
The user can then continue to repeat the process and enter scouting points and observations throughout the field or on multiple fields.
